Privacy Policy

FareBite ("FareBite," "we," "us") operates the FareBite mobile app and the website and waitlist at farebite.app (together, the "Service"). This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. FareBite is currently operated by its founder, pending formation of a registered company.

Information we collect

Waitlist signups. When you join our waitlist, we collect your email address and the time you signed up. We use Cloudflare Turnstile to screen signups for automated bots; we don't see or store anything from that check beyond a pass/fail result.

Account information. When you create a FareBite account, we collect your email address and any profile details you choose to add.

Content you provide. Photos of recipes you scan, the recipe text and ingredients FareBite extracts from them, shopping lists you build, and any recipes you choose to save or share (publicly or privately) within the app.

Region and location. To show grocery prices relevant to you, we use the region you select or your approximate location. We don't collect precise GPS location unless you explicitly enable a feature that requires it.

Purchase information. If you subscribe to FareBite, payment is handled by the Apple App Store, Google Play, or our subscription partner RevenueCat. We don't see or store your full payment card details.

Usage and device data. Basic analytics such as app version, device type, and crash reports, which help us fix bugs and improve the app.

How we use information

• Operate, maintain, and improve the Service
• Send you the emails you've asked for (waitlist updates, beta invitations, account and billing notices)
• Process the photos and recipes you submit to extract ingredients and generate shopping lists and pricing
• Prevent abuse and fraud, such as bot signups or duplicate accounts
• Comply with legal obligations

Third-party services we use

We rely on a handful of providers to run FareBite, each of which only receives what it needs to do its job:

• Supabase — database hosting and backend infrastructure
• Resend — sending transactional emails like waitlist confirmations
• Cloudflare — hosting this website and screening signups for bots
• RevenueCat — managing in-app subscriptions
• The Apple App Store and Google Play — app distribution and payment processing
• Image-recognition and AI services used to read and interpret recipe photos

Sharing recipes

If you choose to make a saved recipe public within the app, its content (and any associated photo) may be visible to other users browsing the shared recipe library. You control whether each recipe you save is public or private.

Data retention & deletion

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. You can delete your account at any time from within the app, which removes your profile, saved recipes, and personal data from our systems, except where we're required to retain it (for example, financial records). For waitlist signups, use the unsubscribe link in any waitlist email, or contact us, to be removed.

Your choices

• Unsubscribe from waitlist or marketing emails at any time via the link in the email
• Access, correct, or delete your account data from within the app, or by contacting us
• Opt out of location-based pricing by selecting a region manually instead

Children's privacy

FareBite is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including row-level security on our database and encrypted connections. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure.

Changes to this policy

We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we make changes, and for significant changes we'll make reasonable efforts to notify you, such as by email or an in-app notice.
